Slips that come from everywhere

In retirement, your income comes from several payers: your old employer, Service Canada, your bank. Each takes off a little tax, or none.

Your return adds it all up. That's where you see if enough tax was withheld.

Splitting

Sharing your pension income

Up to half of your eligible pension income can be allocated to your spouse, which often lowers the couple's tax. We work out the split on both returns.

Old Age Security

The OAS recovery tax

Above a certain income, part of your Old Age Security pension has to be paid back. We check it so there's no surprise.

RRIF

When your RRSP becomes a RRIF

Your RRSP must be converted by the end of the year you turn 71. RRIF withdrawals are taxable, and the minimum withdrawal often has no tax taken off.

Credits

The age amount

From age 65, an extra credit is added to your return. It shrinks as your income goes up.
